Hip instability is one of the most significant challenges total joint surgeons face today. Not only are revision patients a higher risk for post-operative complications, but few options exist for successfully treating a chronically dislocating joint. The traditional constrained liner design relies almost exclusively on the metal ring to constrict the liner "mouth" and prevent dislocation - meaning that the bulk of distractive stresses (that is, forces pulling the joint apart) must be absorbed by only this small ring and a short polyethylene lip. Until today, this has been considered the best treatment option for chronic hip instability.
But now there is the Freedom® Constrained Liner System, a new patent-pending design that incorporates a unique, revolutionary head geometry together with the strength of ArCom® polyethylene and a titanium locking ring. This construct provides exceptional strength and resistance to dislocation, and it also allows for more than 110 degrees Range of Motion - unprecedented performance for a constrained device.
